Jessica joined us a couple of months ago, targeting construction business owners and executives, as well as those in the oil and gas industry. Jessica has recently closed a deal with a construction business owner, securing a life insurance annual premium of $6,000. On top of that, she has another commercial insurance deal tied to it. She’s consistently scheduling appointments with these executives and business owners, which is amazing. Jessica, I appreciate you joining us today. Could you please introduce yourself, your name, title, what you specialize in, and where you’re from?
Jessica: Right, well, hi everyone, my name is Jessica Liu. I’m a financial advisor here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I pretty much help people make money, save money, and protect money, dealing with all things personal insurance-wise as well as investments. I’ve been a financial advisor for about seven years now and have been with The Co-operators for a little over six months. Prior to that, I worked in the brokerage world, so I’m quite familiar with the different products and strategies available.
Bilal: It sounds like you have a wealth of experience. Despite that, what were some of the challenges you faced before joining Lux Sales Consulting?
Jessica: Even though I was able to build a system for myself, one of my biggest challenges was prospecting or getting clients. I had no problem talking to people face-to-face, in-person prospecting, or making phone calls, but I reached a point where I didn’t know enough people to reach out to. Referrals can only take you so far, and it became stressful trying to figure out how much time I needed to put towards prospecting and sending messages. It takes a lot of time, and I’m only one person, so I could only send so many messages per day.
Bilal: That’s a common struggle for many advisors. How did using the Lux Sales System help you overcome these challenges?
Jessica: Honestly, at first, I was hesitant. I’m great with people, but technology is something I could get better at. The idea of learning a whole new system felt overwhelming. But I knew the benefits of having automated systems in place, so I gave it a shot. Once everything was set up, my schedule filled up quickly. My days are now booked from morning until the end of the day with productive activity—introductory calls, Zoom calls, and in-person meetings. I’ve also learned to deal with rejection better since I’m talking to so many people. If someone says no, it doesn’t sting as much because I know there are more opportunities lined up.
Bilal: That’s fantastic to hear. It seems like the system has taken a lot of the stress out of prospecting for you. Given your experience, what would you say to other financial advisors in Canada who are considering investing in a system like this?
Jessica: I think you should always invest in yourself. If you’re hesitant about doing something like this, just give it a shot. For me, the hesitation was more about the time commitment, but it’s absolutely worth it. You will get results, and you will start talking to a lot of people. The deal I closed more than paid for itself already. You never know until you try it, so I would just say, give it a try and see for yourself.
